Crony capitalism going strong. I'm sure you have read about Amazon's idea to build a second headquarters somewhere.

I was thinking Tehran would be a good spot, but I don't think they could handle the Ayatollahs quite as easily as they can American politicians who wet their pants like excitable, untrained puppies at the magic word: JOBS!

The article in the RJ  10/24 listed seven states that did not apply: Arkansas, Hawaii, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.  I'd like to think they have a political leadership wise enough to steer clear of the Amazon trap but, more likely, it's a question of population and geographic location. Either way they dodged a bullet.

As for our puppies, sorry, leaders, there was this gem in the RJ article: "Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance CEO James Peterson said the proposal shows data on the Las Vegas Valley's population growth, low taxes and low regulation. The alliance declined to disclose how much the state offered in tax incentives saying that Amazon had requested that information not be made public."

Isn't it nice to see one of Nevada's elites in complete subservience to this massive cesspool of corporate welfare called Amazon? No? Yes? Either way, get used to it. It's the way things work. Can you say Tesla? Switch?
New Jersey broke with Amazon's "Say nothing" order. Governor Chris Christie announced the city of Newark and the state are putting together a package of tax breaks worth $7 billion. If any of you are from back east can you see Amazon sitting in Newark, NJ? Even for $20 billion?

Amazon says it got 230 bids, so they're guaranteed to rip off some group of taxpayers. Hopefully, not us.

Speaking of crony capitalism the RJ reported on 11/3 there seems to be a bit of trouble in corporate welfare heaven otherwise known at Tesla's gigafactory up North. "Tesla said it will not reach its goal of producing 5,000 Model 3 electric cars per week in 2017 citing hiccups at the gigafactory...." The problem is in the battery module assembly line.
Mr. Sam Abueloamsid, Senior Research Analyst at Navigant says the problem means only one of three things: "Either Tesla gave the wrong specifications or vendors didn't meet those specifications or Tesla dropped the ball somewhere along the line."

Don't worry folks. I'm  sure our $1 billion plus "investment" is well protected and secure. If you need reassurance just ask Governor Sandoval.

The war on the First Amendment continues pretty much  unabated. I found it quite amusing when a high ranking official of the ACLU got shouted down at a college campus in California. A very nice example of what goes around, comes around.

The tragedy in Niger got me wondering if maybe we shouldn't institute a real draft. We are spread so thin all over the world. Our volunteer serviceman and women do their duty, come home and are forced to got out again. For goodness sake I read we've been in Afghanistan 18 years. The Russians had the good sense to get out after a decade. There is no public pressure opposing our military involvement in  every nook and cranny of the world. Maybe if these empty headed twits on campus were subject to being sent off to some hell hole to be cannon fodder they would discover the value of the First Amendment and use it rather than trying to destroy it.

A thought on the First Amendment: "If there is any principle of the Constitution that more imperatively calls for attachment than any other it is the principle of free thought - not free thought for those who agree with us but freedom for the thought that we hate." -Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
