Nevada Seniors Coalition Good Experiences List
by Ken Mahal, NSC President
Originally published on February 10, 2005 - reprinted with permission
I donít know about you but I suspect you may have some of the same problems as we do.
That is, where do you go when you need a good doctor, clinic or other services, medical
or otherwise? For the last several years we have had our share of need for medical
services so I thought it might be interesting to list some of the good experiences
and maybe some of the bad ones, but the good ones first. In our case I do a lot of
net working with friends and also search on the internet from my computer. For some
time we have discussed the possibility that we at NSC maybe ought to start listing
some of the medical professionals and services that might be of help to others in our
organization. Anyway here goes, remember these are from our experience and you must
also use your own due diligence to be satisfied things are right for your situation.
For now you can call Vern or I if you have suggestions of your own. Agnes and I can
respond to the list below.
1. Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada. They now have 5 clinics around the valley
and from our experience are the very best. They Saved Agnes and Dr. Obara is just great.
702 952 3400
2. Mark L. Glyman M.D., D.D.S. Great for tooth implants and sleep apnea. We had them.
702 892 0833
3. William A. Zamboni, M.D., F.A.C.S. UNMS plastic surgeon, did skin cancer operation.
702 671 5110
4. Shepherd Eye Clinic. Our experience has been very good there for years.
702 731 2088
5. Dr. Sigfrid A. Muller, Las Vegas Skin and Cancer Clinic. He is great and different.
702 258 1001
BE CAREFULL OR YOU CAN GET STUCK WITH A BIG BILL.
Other Things Of Interest
Quest Diagnostic Laboratories. A warning to those not in HMOs; when signing their
paper work or any others where they note that you must pay for anything Medicare
does not approve, I suggest marking that out and note in printed form that they
must notify you of any test not paid for by Medicare, then be sure to initial it,
date it and get a copy.
Southwest Ambulance Nevada. Even in an emergency keep your wits about you or you
will end up with a big bill that Medicare will not pay. You need to be very certain
that they have very good reasons for taking yourself or other family members to
emergency hospital services or you will get a $600 bill that takes forever to fight
with Medicare and from my experience do the fighting with Medicare right away.
We have lots more but letís see how this goes.
THE NEVADA STATE LEGISLATURE IS IN SESSION. MAY GOD SAVE US.
As I have said many times it would be good if our esteemed members of the legislature
each odd year convened in Carson City for only five days; take one day to do the strip
casino business, party at taxpayer expense for four days and then come home.
THE REAL-ESTATE TAXES WILL GO UP BEFORE THEY GO DOWN.
Dan Roberts of THE VEGAS VOICE collected some 2000 signatures for Clark County Assessor
Mark Schofield to review our taxes but he intends to withdraw them before the Assessor
acts and take that information to Carson City asking the legislature to take action
saving our very lives from being taxed out of our homes. Why not just make it simple;
go back two years, establish that as our tax base year and allow increases or decreases
based on C.P.I. (Consumer Price Index). The theory behind this idea is that like you and
I, we have survived on average in our group some twenty plus years with out going to the
poor house. We even have a few bucks left to spend in the neighborhood casino from time
to time. Further, isnít it time that everyone tighten their belts and in particular
government. Oh my, I hear the crying, what about education? Well let me tell you if they
have to be belted in they might even get the idea that there is no logic or one damn bit
of sense to keep increasing our uneducated poorly experienced common labor pool by four
or five thousand each month. What sense does it make to continue to grow the present work
force just because they can pound a few nails (and by the way are very snide in their ways
about not wanting to adapt to our culture)? Why should you and I fund such people who will
have four, five, six or more kids and teach them from babyhood on to speak a foreign
language so they donít even adapt to our culture either?
MORE IMPORTANTLY AS LONG AS THE LEGISLATURE WILL NOT FUND A LEGITIMATE AUDIT OF
THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS EXPENDITURES FROM A TO Z, I SEE NO REASON TO GIVE THEM MORE
MONEY, DO YOU? With several hundred million in surplus there is no longer a reason
not to call an audit.
Senator Harry Reid what has happened? You seem like a Bull Elk who has lost his lady elk herd.
Get over it, the election is over. Hey a little cooperation with honey goes a long ways and a
good loser is much more successful than a ranting, raging sourpuss. We need you to get a lot
done and being constructive will help you so much more. Please do it for us.
Hey Clark County and Nevada get over it. The federal land is just that and the feds have the
right to do with that money what they want to. I cannot think of a better use of the proceeds
than for reducing the federal budget as opposed to increasing Clark Counties.
AIRPORT LAND DEALS
Randy Walker, the airport man who walks on water, we find is supported under that water
by very smelly manipulations of federal land around the airport. I suggest that he and
the rest of that bunch of holier than thou at both the airport and county be made to pay
for the no cemetery land deal. Further, Federalies be sure to look into the smelly land
deal that gave Wal-Mart a sweet heart deal in the same area for a new super store while
at the same time closing down our store on Tropicana near Pecos. At one time it was the
busiest store they owned in the country. People will now be five or six miles a way from
the new store. THERE IS A LOT OF ODOR TO THIS DEAL. FEDS ó SMELL IT OUT!
